  Breaking Bars, according to spoken history collected by the Lucia's from Icemen of the 1930s was the piece of ice harvesting equipment that was lost the most during the ice harvest. Being heavy and with no handle to grasp, many Breaking bars were dropped into the ponds and lakes never to be retrieved.
