Many companies manufactured ice tongs until the
mid 1900s. Some of which were: W.T. Wood, Vivian,
Stratsburg Tool Works, Borstein and Gifford and
Wood Co. Tongs came in different shapes and weights,
depending on what they were used for…from
Platform tongs to tongs used in the icehouse to
lightweight tongs used by the ice delivery man to
“camp” tongs that the homeowner usually
used. Homeowners acquired their tongs from the Ice
Company as a premium, or give away or at
minimal cost. |
